I have had many people throughout my life ask me why I love vinyl, what is it about vinyl that draws me to it, and why did I start to collect it. I'm not exactly sure why I started collecting vinyl or why I have always been drawn to it. I can say that I have been listening to vinyl since I was very little.

My passion for vinyl really grew as a teenager. When I was 15, I made the jump from cool, popular group to the weirdo kids group. All but two or three of my friends were boys and they had a love for classic rock. I always listened to it, but not religiously like them. Then, the Beatles Anthology aired. It was life changing. I couldn't get enough. From then on out, I had to get my hands on every Beatles album, along with as many other classic rock records that I could. I was the kid in high school wearing clothes from thrift stores (bell bottoms, polyester, and shirts from the seventies) who was unapologetic for her love of all things classic rock and vintage.
I have never lost my love or passion even though in today's musical society most music is digital. With instant streaming programs there isn't the need to go out and buy physical copies of your favorite albums. But even amongst the digital age, vinyl is making a huge comeback.
In the last couple of years, vinyl records have been showing up everywhere. It takes a lot of time and money to go and pick out what records you want to add to your collection. I personally believe you can tell so much about a person just by looking at their vinyl collection. In case I haven't convinced you yet, here are 10 reasons why you should be listening to vinyl (drum roll please):
1. The emotions
When listening to vinyl, you can hear all of the emotions an artist puts into a song.

2. The warmth
There is something about the sound of vinyl that just warms your soul. It sounds so much purer than listening to a song on your laptop or phone.
3. Nostalgia
Listening to certain records can bring you back. For me, I have certain records that remind me of my childhood dancing around the living room, my high school days and all of the emotions that go along with teenage agnst, and even more recent life events with newer releases. It's like hopping into a time machine.
4. Buying a record
There is no better feeling than flipping through the stacks of records and finally coming across one that you have been searching for.
5. Colored vinyl
I am very proud to say that I own a few vinyls that are different colors. I have a pink one, a white one, and an orange one. Just seeing them spin is so fascinating. My kids think they're really fun too!

6. The album covers
This is more for the aesthetics, but just seeing the album covers for each LP is amazing. Also, they can be used for really cool artwork! In college, my roommates and I had an entire wall of our living covered in LP covers.
7. Sides (changing a record)
I normally listen to my records when I'm doing homework. Once that side has ended, it gives me the perfect little break to get up and stretch out my legs in order to flip the record or change it out. So, it's exercise! Another great health benefit of owning vinyl.
8. The money
Although records may be more expensive than buying the album digitally, one day, if you ever decide to part with the record, it could possibly make you more money.
9. Great conversation starters
If someone sees your vinyl collection, it is the perfect way to start a conversation. So many conversations could start just from viewing one's collection.
10. Appreciation for music
Because you can't skip songs on vinyl without much effort, you really begin to appreciate songs that you never thought you would like because you tend to listen to the entire album.
